To type a custom hero name with a gamepad, launch Steam in Big Picture Mode, start Underkeep, then press Y in “Choose Hero’s Name” to open the virtual keyboard. These are the developer’s published instructions.
Enter a custom name with a gamepad
Start Steam in Big Picture Mode
The FAQ explicitly calls for Big Picture Mode, not just a controller connected to the desktop Steam client.
Launch Underkeep from there
Start the game from that Steam interface.
Open “Choose Hero’s Name” and press Y
The developer says this opens the virtual keyboard so you can enter a custom name.
Full or partial controller support?
The studio website advertises full controller support, while the Steam category returned during this check says “Partial Controller Support.” Those labels do not match. This site preserves that distinction rather than promising every menu works with every device.
The same website advertises an option to skip animations. It does not supply the exact menu path or a universal input binding in the checked text, so no invented settings sequence is provided.
Other launch questions
How long is Underkeep?
The developer estimates 15–20 hours for a playthrough and around 30 hours with more exploration, puzzles and side quests.
Is the artwork AI-generated?
The developer’s FAQ says all game artwork was hand-drawn. It explains that several artists contributed and that perspective scaling can produce mixed pixel sizes.
Is it confirmed for GeForce NOW?
The FAQ says the team is trying to have the game accepted, but cannot control whether or when that happens. Do not treat that as confirmation of availability.
Where should I send a reproducible bug?
Use the Rake in Grass support/contact page linked below. Include your installed version, operating system and steps to reproduce. Do not post passwords or Steam account credentials.
